D&A Concrete, began work Tuesday on repairing and replacing the patio, steps and sidewalks. This is the first part of a three project effort which was approved last year and re-approved by the Church Council in April. The projects are: (1) Currently underway to remove and replace existing sidewalks running from the Education Building to the mail box, the steep serpentine ramp  and the short side walk and steps to the patio. Consideration is being made to convert this short sidewalk to a handicap ramp meeting ADA specifications, thereby eliminating the three steps.  The following two projects will be done following VBS and the Music Camp in mid-August, (2) Remove and replace the surface of the patio and repair the cracks in the surrounding wall and (3) Remove and replace  sidewalk and steps running from Old Mill Road to the West Parking lot (Mount Vernon Memorial side).

Thank you from Mondloch Place!   A big thank you to the loving and generous congregation at Washington Farm for opening your hearts and hands to provide the housekeeping supplies for the Mondloch Place move-in kits.  These essentials make a world of difference to an individual who is just starting on the road to self-sufficiency after experiencing homelessness and working hard to gain skills and then employment with the help of various agencies, including New Hope Housing.  We were able to provide every item needed for an individual to get started in his or her own efficiency apartment in the month of June.  THANK YOU!!!

Many thanks to all who helped with the Yard Sale this past week and also yesterday during the sale. This is one of two that we hold each year. It “takes a church” to make it a success! It was a success! We hope that those of you who participated feel uplifted and excited by again helping WFUMC help our community. You all are the best!

R.O.C.K. Update:  The manager at the Elks Lodge expects to have the Route One Community Kitchen lunch program up and running again in May after kitchen refurbishment is completed.  A sign-up for volunteers for May, June and July is again posted on the Narthex bulletin board.

HELPING OTHERS WITH A FRESH START:  MOVE-IN KITS

WFUMC is collecting housekeeping items for residents moving out of shelters into their first new homes.  This can be a very expensive endeavor for someone who is just starting to work and pay his or her own bills.  New Hope Housing has a program for organizations to provide “move-in kits” for these previously homeless individuals who have worked hard at job training, have found employment, and are ready for a fresh start.  WFUMC is “adopting” an individual by helping supply most or all of the items needed when moving into a new home for the first time.  These should be NEW, not used, items.  There will be a sign-up poster in the narthex for the month of May.  Items can be left in the “Move-In Kit” box in the narthex and will be delivered as a full kit to New Hope Housing. Partial List of Move-in Kit Items:  Sheet sets, pillow, blanket, toilet paper, towels, shower curtain, silverware, pots and pans, sponges, dishware (plates, bowls, cups), cooking utensils, vacuum, light-bulbs, broom, cleaning supplies, paper towels, trash bags, pot holders, laundry detergent……and so on. Please help our less fortunate neighbors get a good start.  Contact Lisa Webster.
