Children’s Christian Education

The Children’s Christian Education program at Washington Farm offers many opportunities for children to grow in their faith, with wonderful teachers, outstanding curriculum, and a warm, welcoming setting!

Sunday School

Each week in Sunday School, the students will enjoy learning a Bible lesson and participating in crafts, games, and activities to reinforce the lesson. All Children’s Sunday School classes meet from 9:00-9:50 AM in the Education Building.

Youth Group/Youth Sunday School is geared to students in grades 7-12. It meets at 9:00-9:50 AM in the Education Building, and is led by our youth leader, Drew Barnes. The class combines Bible study and fun fellowship activities.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church is provided weekly during the 9 AM worship service.  Following the Pastor’s Children’s Message at the 9 AM service, all children, ages preschool through second grade, are invited to attend a special children’s service geared to their attention spans and interests; the children are escorted from the church to the Education Building as a group.  During Children’s Church the children learn stories and verses from the Bible, sing, pray, participate in worship jobs such as acolyte and usher, and enjoy a game or craft. (Note: On Communion Sunday, which is the first Sunday of the month, the children remain in worship to take part in this sacrament with their families. There is no Children’s Church on Communion Sunday.)

Piano Class

Group instruction and electronic piano keyboards are provided, along with a Bible lesson and prayer. For children in Grade 2 and up.  Free. Meets weekly during most of the school year. (See separate listing for further information.)

Guitar Class

Guitars and group instruction are provided. A Bible lesson and prayer are part of the class. Designed for 2nd grade and up. Free. Meets weekly during most of the school year.

Acolyte Ministry

Students in grades 3 and up are invited to participate in Washington Farm’s Acolyte Ministry. Interested students will be trained in how to perform the duties of acolyte and crucifer—lighting and extinguishing the candles, bearing the cross, assisting with baptisms and communion, and aiding the Pastor during worship on selected Sundays.

VBS (Vacation Bible School)

Free. 2017 VBS is scheduled for July 17-21, 2017. This year’s theme is Hero Central: Discovering our Strength in God. Time is 10 AM-1 PM.  It is going to be an awesome week for students and volunteers! Registration begins in April.

Free Summer Music Camp

Other Children’s/Family Events

Throughout the year, fun activities are planned for children and their families. Highlights include an All-Saints Day party with “trunk”-or-treating, family caroling, Fall Fun Fair, Service opportunities, Breakfast in Bethlehem and a visit with Santa, a family Christmas program involving all children, Scout Sunday, Children’s Sabbath, a church-wide picnic, Lego Night, VBS, Music Camp, and more!

Confirmation Class

In the United Methodist Church, students of a certain age (usually around 6th grade) are offered the opportunity to participate in Confirmation class; this class teaches students about basic Christian beliefs, helps them in their personal profession of faith, and prepares the students for membership in the church and for leading a life of Christian discipleship. The 8-week class is taught by the Pastor and is offered beginning in January or February.

Youth Group

Students in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in Youth Group. Students grow in faith and fellowship through opportunities for service, Bible study, socializing with friends, games, activities, and occasional outings.

We hope you’ll join us for any of our children’s classes or programs!
